Yoga Wear - An Overview
Yoga pants are a type of flexible, form-fitting pants designed for the practice of yoga as well as other activities that involve a lot of movement, bending and stretching. Some of the other activities include: martial arts, dancing, Pilates, aerobics, clubbing etc. These pants are generally made of cotton, spandex, nylon, polyester or a light and stretchy synthetic material. They are usually tight-fitted, colored black, and have an elastic waistband folded over at the top. Although designed specifically for yoga, the pants can also be casually worn by women in daily life for their known comfort. Apart from this, yoga pants are one of the few pant styles that can make the legs appear slimmer and to accentuate the figure.
However, there are many noted different 'styles' of the sport itself. While a skimpy, strappy outfit is perfect for the sweaty studios of Bikram yoga, you'll feel out of place in a Kundalini yoga class if what one is wearing resembles a bikini. Kundalini yoga is the yoga of awareness, so its important to be aware of what one is wearing! Kundalini clothing follows these three principles: white natural fibre, modest, and easy to move in. The white is used because it reflects and radiates light. This helps expand the aura. Natural fibres allow energy to flow smoothly without blockages, and wearing clothes that moves easily (tighter-fitting) is important for more vigorous Kriya, that require a large degree of range of motion. Kundalini clothing is seen as a more modest take on yoga clothing. A good general rule of thumb? Just make sure your white clothes aren't entirely see through, or wear an additional layer underneath them!
